Which tax regime is better for me?
The new regime has lower rates and a higher rebate, so it suits most people with few deductions. The old regime can work out better if you claim large deductions such as 80C, 80D, HRA and home loan interest. The calculator compares both for your numbers.
Is income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free?
Under the new regime for FY 2025-26, the rebate makes tax nil when taxable income is up to ₹12 lakh. For salaried people, the ₹75,000 standard deduction takes this to ₹12.75 lakh of salary.
What are the GST rates now?
Most goods and services fall under 5% or 18%. A 40% rate applies to a small list of luxury and sin goods, with special rates of 0.25% and 3% for rough diamonds and gold or jewellery.
